HOT SPRINGS, Ar. — Kyler Wolf is well on his way to making his senior football season memorable at Lakeside High School.

Wolf caught six passes for 171 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, leading Lakeside past Camden Fairview Thursday night, 34-20.

The Cardinals came into the game as favorites. However, they never got closer than 13 points after falling behind 21-0 at halftime. Fairview was penalized 15 yards on the final play of the first half. It forced the Cardinals to kickoff from its own 25 to start the second half. Junior Ryan Ballard hauled in a shot kick, and raced to his sideline and up 60 yards for six points only fourteen seconds into the third quarter.

“We always talk about getting a win in the first conference game,” said first-year head coach Garren Rockwell. “This was a big win against one of the top teams in 5A South. I thought we played all four quarters. It we a little ugly after we got up 27-0. We bounced back and did what we needed to do to close out the game.

Hermosillo manages Rams’ offense

“We’re going to keep working hard and focus on one game at a time. We play a very tough Magnolia team on the road next week. I thought our quarterback (Jacob Hermosillo), and offensive tackle (sophomore Tucker Young) played well. Hermosillo managed the game very well at the end.”

Hermosillo finished 13-of-21 for 263 yards and two TDs. Junior Grady Ohman led the Rams’ ground game with 19 carries for 80 yards and two 1-yard touchdowns.

Lakeside (3-1, 1-0) scored on its first possession of the game. The Rams went 56 yards, with senior Skylar Purifoy catching a 24-yard scoring pass.

Fairview’s first points came after Ballard’s kickoff return. Senior quarterback Tracy Daniels threw three touchdown passes in the second half. He completed 24-of-43 passes for 301 yards.
