State Police investigating possible double murder in Stone County

The Arkansas State Police say they are investigating a possible double murder in Stone County.

According to state police, two apparent murder victims were discovered in a home north of Mountain View on March 9. The Stone County Sheriff’s Department had deputies contact state police shortly after the bodies of a man and a woman were discovered at the residence on Chateau Pointe Loop off Arkansas Highway 87 north of Mountain View shortly before 2:52 p.m.

The man was identified at 64-year-old Ronald Calkins and the woman as 40-year-old Brandy Patrick, both of Mountain View. Their bodies have been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory where the cause and manner of death will be determined.

Police say a suspect was identified early in the investigation as a person who may have taken a truck from the crime scene. At around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, criminal investigation division special agents and the Stone County Sheriff’s Department developed information that the suspect was possibly in the Fifty-Six community north of Mountain View.

Deputies were able to locate 43-year-old Royce Calkins, son of one of the murder victims. The younger Calkins lived with his father at the Chateau Pointe Loop domicile.

Calkins was arrested and is being detained at the Stone County Detention Center on a first degree murder charge.
