State police investigating North Little Rock I-40 shooting

The Arkansas State Police is investigating a shooting that occurred on Interstate 40 in North Little Rock Tuesday evening.

According to police, Arkansas State Police highway patrol discovered a car parked on the I-40 off-ramp leading onto U.S.-67/167. Police say the driver, 19-year-old Stephen DeWayne Gilbert, Jr. of North Little Rock, had been shot.

Police believe the shooting incident occurred in a drive-by shooting along I-40. Gilbert was transported from the crime scene via ambulance and transported to a Little Rock hospital. Police say Gilbert was last reported to be in critical condition.

Special agents from the state police’s criminal investigation division have been assigned to the case.
