State Police investigating Madison County double homicide

The Arkansas State Police criminal investigation division is investigating a shooting in Madison County that left two dead and another wounded.

At around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, 44-year-old Samuel Oliver Simmons allegedly shot his mother, father, and uncle at a Madison County residence at 1641 Madison County Road 5675 south of Huntsville off of State Highway 23.

According to the state police, 67-year-old Richard Simmons was alive, and is currently in stable condition at a nearby Fayetteville hospital. His wife, 65-year-old Mary Marlene Simmons, and his brother, 66-year-old Mark Lee Simmons, were both dead.

The 44-year-old Simmons lived at the same address with his parents and uncle.

The bodies of Mark and Mary Simmons have been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory where a manner and cause of death will be determined.

The 44-year-old Simmons remains in custody at the Madison County Jail, and is expected to be formally charged on Monday.
