The Arkansas State Police is investigating an officer involved shooting wherein a Hot Springs County Sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a man after a domestic disturbance.
Police say that 29-year-old Jacob Aaron Thomas of Hot Springs County opened fire on deputies, who were responding to reports of a domestic disturbance at his residence at 1374 Two Rivers Trail southwest of Malvern.
According to police, deputies arrived at around 1:30 p.m. Feb. 11. Upon arrival, deputies say they saw Thomas armed with a shotgun walking from a pasture toward the front of the residence. Police say that as Thomas approached, he opened fire on the deputies, who subsequently returned fire and killed Thomas.
No Hot Springs County Sheriff’s deputies were injured, police say.
The sheriff’s department requested the assistance of the State Police’s criminal investigation division to conduct an investigation of the incident. Special agents will present an investigative file to the county’s prosecuting attorney, who will then determine if the use of deadly force by the sheriff’s deputies was consistent with Arkansas laws.
