Arkansas State Police is investigating two seemingly unrelated incidents that occurred over a five-hour period Tuesday morning that claimed the lives of three children.
The first incident was on U.S.-67 south of the Jackson and Craighead County line at around mile marker 98 where two children were found dead. Police say the children were struck by a southbound tractor-trailer commercial carrier. The children were identified as 10-year-old Michael Rogers III and his sister, three-year-old Princess Josh-Lyn Logan. Their mother, 26-year-old Latoya Taylor, was at the scene when state troopers arrived around 4:15 a.m. and she was uninjured.
Police also reported a second unrelated incident where a motorist on Interstate 30 in the westbound lanes near mile marker 117 near Saline County reported a young child being dropped from a moving vehicle.
According to police, the two-year-old died at the scene after officers responded at approximately 9:00 a.m.
The state police criminal investigation division’s special agents are questioning witnesses in each case. Agents have been in contact with prosecuting attorneys, police say, and will submit criminal case files for consideration. No arrests have been made at this time.
