A dump truck and a school bus were involved in a vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Lawrence County south of Hoxie this afternoon.
According to Arkansas State Police at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, a dump truck traveling southbound on U.S.-63 crashed into the rear of a Hoxie School Bus as the student transport began to turn off the main highway and onto Lawrence County Road 703. The impact caused the school bus to veer off of the roadway and to overturn. The adult drivers of both the dump truck and the bus were injured, as were the seven children on the bus.
All of the occupants in the bus were transported to a nearby Jonesboro area hospital. One child was airlifted to a Memphis area hospital, according to police.
Police say that the driver of the dump truck was 31-year-old Houston Franks, who was transported to a nearby Jonesboro hospital. 43-year-old Jeremy Parmer was driving the school bus, police say.
None of the injuries initially assessed at the scene were considered to be life threatening, police say, even though two of the minors on the bus had to be extricated from the wreckage.
Arkansas State Troopers assigned to the Highway Patrol Division, Troop B, and a reconstruction team from the same division’s administrative command offices in Little Rock will lead the investigation into the accident.
