Rangers smash White Sox 9-2

The Rangers beat the White Sox, 9-2, on Tuesday in Glendale. Texas has won 10 of its last 14 games and has a 12-7 record overall in the exhibition season.

Mike Minor worked 4.2 scoreless innings to earn the win, allowing just 2 singles and striking out 3. He did not allow a runner to reach scoring position. Through 2 spring starts, the left-hander has logged 7.2 shutout frames with 2 hits allowed, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts.

Texas jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning, as Yadiel Rivera hit a bases-loaded RBI single and Jeff Mathis followed with a 2-run knock. Rivera added an RBI single in the 4th and finished 3-for-3 with 2 RBI. He is batting .500 (11-22) this spring and ranks 2nd on the club in hits. Mathis has driven in 2 runs in back-to-back games. Adolis García belted a 2-run home run to right-center field in the 6th inning to give Texas a 6-0 lead. The blast scored Rob Refsnyder, who doubled to lead off the frame. García, who has homered in 2 of his last 4 games, added a sacrifice fly in the 8th inning to finish with 3 RBI on the day.

Refsnyder finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, a walk, and 3 runs scored, as he singled home a run in the 9th inning. Isiah Kiner-Falefa doubled with one out in that inning, extending his hitting streak to 7 games at 11-for-19. José Leclerc relieved Minor with 2 outs in the 5th and allowed a double to Leury Garcia before striking out 4 of his final 5 batters faced, including Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada, and Yasmani Grandal.

The Rangers host the Giants on Wednesday at 3:05 p.m. CT in Surprise. RHP Luke Farrell (1-0, 0.00) is scheduled to start for Texas against San Francisco RHP Kevin Gausman (0-0, 1.29). The game will be carried on Fox Sports Southwest, with Dave Raymond and C.J. Nitkowski in the booth and Emily Jones reporting.
