ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced prior to Wednesday night’s game against the Seattle Mariners that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Jimmy Herget (#64) from the Alternate Training Site. To make room for Herget on the active 28-man roster, the team has placed right-handed pitcher Nick Goody on the 10-day Injured List with back spasms.
Herget was optioned to the Alternate Site prior to Tuesday’s contest, as his first stint with Texas ran from July 31-August 10. He has allowed 5 runs in 4.1 innings over 5 relief appearances with the Rangers this season, and last pitched in Monday’s series opener against the Mariners (0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R-ER).
Goody has no record with one save and a 4.50 ERA (2 ER/4.0 IP) over 7 appearances for the Rangers this season. He has appeared in 2 straight games for Texas after pitching once in the previous 8 days. The first date he would be eligible to return is August 22.
After today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the Major League roster.
WINN AND VANASCO ADDED TO ALTERNATE TRAINING SITE: The Rangers have added right-handed pitchers Cole Winn and Ricky Vanasco to the Alternate Training Site roster. Winn, the team’s first round selection in the 2018 June draft, went 4-4 with a 4.46 ERA (34 ER/68.2 IP) for Low-A Hickory last year in his first professional action. Vanasco combined to go 3-1 with a 1.81 ERA (10 ER/49.2 IP) over 11 starts with Hickory and Spokane (Short-A) in 2019.
