The Rangers won their third straight game on Sunday, edging the Dodgers by a 4-3 margin in 8 complete innings at Surprise Stadium. The game was played in front of a reduced-capacity sellout crowd of 2,145 fans.
Texas scored 4 runs off Dodgers starter Walker Buehler, highlighted by home runs from Joey Gallo (solo) and Rougned Odor (2-run) in the 1st inning. Gallo has now homered in 4 of his 1st 5 spring games after entering the day tied for the overall MLB lead in that category. Odor has hit safely in 3 straight and has driven in 2 runs in consecutive contests.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa extended his hitting streak to 3 games and the Texas lead to 4-0 with an RBI double in the 2nd inning to score Delino DeShields, who also doubled. Eight different Rangers recorded hits on the day, including Khris Davis (1st spring hit) and Josh Jung.
Starter Mike Foltynewicz (win, 2.0 IP) and reliever Jordan Lyles (1.0 IP), both making their spring debuts, combined to set down the first 9 Dodgers in order to begin the game before Mookie Betts singled off Kyle Cody to begin the 4th inning. Dane Dunning (2.0 IP) and Hyeon-jong Yang (1.0 IP) also saw their 1st action of the spring, with Dunning posting a pair of scoreless frames and Yang securing the save despite allowing an 8th-inning home run to DJ Peters. Los Angeles scored a pair of runs in the 5th inning off Cody, who had both of his innings “rolled” with 2 outs due to pitch count.
