PEARCY, Ark. – Sophomore Zac Pennington poured in 24 points Friday night as Lake Hamilton took over second place in 5A South by upsetting El Dorado, 72-65.
Lake Hamilton (9-3, 3-1) is a half game behind Lakeside in the standings, with El Dorado another half game back. The Wildcats are scheduled to play Hot Springs Saturday at 5 p.m.
Pennington came up with the defensive play of the game in the final minute with a steal, and then converted two free throws. A layup by E.J. McDaniel and two free throws by Ethan Watson allowed the Wolves to pull away.

The Wolves led 17-6 after the first eight minutes, building an 18-point cushion before settling for a 32-19 advantage at halftime.
El Dorado (5-9, 2-1) found itself trailing 49-34 going into the final quarter. The Wildcats rallied within two points twice, but could never catch up.
McDaniel scored 17 points for the winners, with Cade Robinson contributing nine points. James Hartsfield led the Wildcats with 16 points. Mario Ganter added 13, and Jarmel Love scored 10.
Lake Hamilton’s girls remained unbeaten in 5A South play with a 55-31 win over the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Wolves did not score in the fourth quarter. No individual standouts were available.
