
The Rangers endured a 4-3 walk-off loss to the Padres on Friday night in Peoria. Texas allowed 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th after scoring twice in the top half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead.
The Rangers tied Padres with one out in the 9th inning on 3 straight hits by prospects Sherten Apostel (double), Bubba Thompson (infield single), and Anderson Tejeda (single). Tejeda’s line single off the pitcher trickled into right field, scoring Apostel to tie the contest at 2-2. Thompson scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch with 2 outs in the final inning. Rafael Montero permitted 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to take the walk-off defeat.
Corey Kluber allowed just one run and 2 hits over 4.0 innings in his second start of the spring, the lone run scoring after a hard-hit ball eluded third baseman Todd Frazier to open the 4th. Joey Gallo went 2-for-3 tonight, including a game-tying RBI double in the 6th inning for the Rangers’ first run. Gallo has hits in 3 of his last 4 games, going 4-for-12 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI. Elvis Andrus also had a 2-for-3 night, as he is now batting .545 (6-11) this spring. Andrus has reached safely via hit or walk in 5 straight games. Rougned Odor singled twice and added a stolen base, raising his spring batting average to .360. Nick Goody recorded 4 strikeouts in the 7th inning, as the leadoff man in the frame reached on a passed ball. Goody has 11 strikeouts in 5 games/5.0 innings this spring. Adolis Garcia recorded an outfield assist in the 6th inning, retring Eric Hosmer at third base on a laser one-hop throw from right field. The assist came at a time when the game was still tied, 1-1.
The Rangers play another road tilt on Saturday, a 2:05 p.m. CT contest against the Brewers in Maryvale. RHP Kyle Gibson (0-0, 0.00) will make his second start for Texas against Milwaukee LHP Brett Anderson (1-1, 3.00). The Brewers’ television broadcast on Fox Sports Wisconsin will also air live on FS Southwest in the DFW market.
