FAYETTEVILLE — Casey Opitz hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the No. 10 Arkansas Razorbacks over the Missouri Tigers 3-2 Sunday at Baum-Walker Stadium.
The winning hit by the sophomore catcher delivered the Hogs their first Southeastern Conference series sweep of the season.
“Obviously, when you win three games, you’re excited about it, but it’s like I told the team, we have to clean up some things,” said Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn. “We have to pay attention to details if we’re going advance because the competition is just going to get better and better and it’s tough to win on the road if you don’t do everything correct.”
The Hogs produced their third consecutive conference sweep and wins its 18 straight home series going back to 2017.
Cody Scroiggins collected five scoreless innings and seven strikeouts. A two-run homer from Mizzou in the top of the ninth gave him the no-decision. However, in the last 11 innings, Scroggins has not given up a run, walking three, and fanning 18.
“I enjoy starting lately,” said the redshirt junior, Scroggins. “It was a great outing. I didn’t really have control of my fastball in the beginning, so I started relying on my off-speed a little bit and it’s a good thing I had control of that. I knew it was going to be kind of a grind because I couldn’t find my command quick enough, but I started feeling that around the fourth inning.”
Arkansas takes on the Texas Longhorns for a two-game midweek series at UFCU Disch-Faulk Field in Austin, Texas. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. and can be heard on Fox Sports 1400 AM with pregame at 6:00 p.m.
