NPC pulls upset with all-freshman lineup against Carl Albert State College

ENID, Okla. – National Park College watched an early 10-2 lead disappear, then rallied Tuesday to upset Carl Albert State College in 10 innings at the NJCAA Region 2 Tournament, 14-13.

The Nighthawks got the scoring started in the first inning on a two-run bomb from Demias Jimerson. The Malvern freshman homered again in the second inning, his 23rd of the team. He’s tied for the NPC lead with Tristen Jamison of Nashville, Ar., who recently signed with Arkansas State University.

Carl Albert rallied back over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to capture the lead at 12-11. NPC answered back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a run-scoring hit by Jamison.

Vikings home run forces extra inning

The Vikings tied the game at 13-13, with a solo home run in the eighth.

NPC (25-29) scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th. Jesus Minjarez doubled with one out, and scored when freshman Ethan Cash of Maumelle, Ar., singled to center.

Freshman pitcher Matthew Herron of Mountain Pine, Ar., allowed three runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings. Jamison was the winning pitcher in relief. He allowed one hit over three innings, while striking out five.

Jimerson, Jamison and freshman Jack Hackney led the Nighthawks with two hits each.

The Nighthawks play an elimination game Wednesday at 11 a.m. against Western Oklahoma State College.
