No. 10 Arkansas top Charlotte 9-2 for 5th straight win

Arkansas past Kent State

FAYETTEVILLE — The No. 10 Arkansas Razorbacks picked up their fifth consecutive win with a 9-2 victory over the Charlotte 49ers Wednesday at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Christian Franklin went 3-of-4, his third multi-hit game of the season, with three RBI and a run scored. Franklin produced a single in the third inning, a RBI double in the fifth, and a two-RBI triple in the sixth inning, his first triple of 2019.

On the mound, Patrick Wicklander collected a career-high eight strikeouts over 76 pitches and only walked three during 5.0 innings of work. In Wickerland’s last nine innings, he has fanned 15, walked six, and allowed just two runs.

“I felt like Patrick Wicklander had really good stuff,” said Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn. “He just didn’t command some of it. He walked the first batter the first three innings and they didn’t score a run. Very unusual. He had seven or eight strikeouts and those were the only three walks he had in five innings. He’s a guy who could pitch for us every Tuesday or Wednesday and if he keeps pitching well, maybe we flip him to the weekend to keep some of our older guys in the bullpen.”

The Razorbacks (10-1) are 8-0 at Baum-Walker. The win was the fifth time in 2019 the Hogs have won by seven-plus runs. Arkansas will stay at home to host Louisiana Tech for a 3-game series starting Friday at 6:00 p.m. first pitch with pregame at 5:30 on Fox Sports 1400 AM.
