ENID, Okla. – Freshman Demias Jimerson hit a two-run homer in the first inning Sunday at Dave Allen Memorial Park, and three National Park College pitchers combined on a 3-hitter as the Nighthawks blanked Murray State College in the first round of the NJCAA Region 2 baseball tournament.
Panama H-Mendez singled to start the game, and Jimerson’s 20th home run of the season followed. Jimerson singled and tripled later in the game, but NPC was shut down by the Aggies’ Braden Corley.
Caro silences Murray State bats
Robby Caro started on the mound for National Park. He went seven innings, leaving after 120 pitches. He allowed three hits, walked five and struck out four. Danny O’Donnell took over in the eighth, walking one and striking out two in one inning. Arkansas State signee Tristen Jamison made a rare appearance in the ninth, retiring Murray State in order on seven pitches.
Corley was outstanding, holding the Nighthawks scoreless the final eight innings. He scattered eight hits in nine innings, walking two and striking out nine. Corley threw 113 pitches, 80 for strikes.
NPC (23-28) was led by Jimerson and Brett Sweatman at the plate. Sweatman had a double and single. Jesus Minjarez and Nathan Kirkpatrick contributed a single each. Tyler Bischke had a double and single for Murray State (29-26).
The Aggies best scoring opportunity came in the third when they had runners at second and third with one out. Caro got out of the jam with two strikeouts.
