Nesbit named SEC Freshman of the Week

Arkansas past Kent State

FAYETTEVILLE — Jacob Nesbit earned the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honor Monday for his spectacular week against Texas and Alabama.

The redshirt freshman started in all five games against the Longhorns and Crimson Tide, hitting .421 (8-of-19), which was second-best average for the Razorbacks and extended his team-high hitting streak to 14 games.

Nesbit hit his first three-hit game of his career on Wednesday, going 3-of-4 with two RBI. In the series opener at Alabama, he tied his career-high RBI with three and finished the week with a total of seven RBI.

In game one versus the Tide, Nesbit hit his first home run of his career, making him the eighth different Diamond Hog to hit at least one home run in 2019, and gave himself a total of 18 RBI for the season. Nesbit’s .346 batting average leads all Arkansas hitters, and he is tied for third-most hits with 27.

The Coppell, Texas, native reached base in 21 straight games, the longest such streak on the team. During Nesbit’s 14-game hitting streak, his batting average has increased from .235 to .346 and has collected five multi-hit games in that time.

Arkansas concludes their six-game road trip Tuesday with a midweek game in Springfield, Mo. as they take on the Missouri State Bears at Hammons Field. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio 1400 Am with pregame at 6:00 p.m. after Leaving the Yard with Chuck Zach and Tony Kirk.
