Nashville, Spring Hill girls alive in Arkansas state softball tournaments



Southwest Arkansas baseball and softball teams did not achieve the success they had hoped for going into the Arkansas state tournaments.

Arkansas High and the other 5A South (Sheridan, Lakeside, Lake Hamilton) were eliminated in the first two rounds. The Razorbacks bowed out to host Jonesboro, 13-2. Jonesboro plays Green County Tech in Saturday’s semifinals at noon.


Nashville boys eliminated by Shiloh Christian

There was more disappointment in 4A baseball when defending champion Nashville was defeated by Shiloh Christian, 4-1. Valley View (27-6) beat Harrison, 8-2. Valley View will play Shiloh Christian Saturday in the semifinals.

Nashville’s girls waltzed in their first tournament game against Brookland, 15-0. The Lady Scrappers play host Morrilton Saturday in the semifinals at noon.

Spring Hill won its’ second game in the 2A tournament, blanking Salem, 2-0. The Lady Bears play Tuckerman at noon in the semis. Tuckerman eliminated Horatio, 10-1.

In Thursday’s baseball, Russellville eliminated Lakeside, 4-3. Texarkana beat Greenbrier, 2-1. Van Buren sent Lake Hamilton home, 7-2. The Lady Wolves lost to Greenwood, 3-0. Lakeside’s girls beat Vilonia, 4-2. The Lady Rams lost Friday to Green County Tech, 11-1.
