A local man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the rape and 2nd degree sexual assault of a 14 -year-old girl, the Sentinel Record reported.
According to the story, 22-year-old Serafin Ramirez Bahena was found guilty on both charges Thursday. He was found guilty after 2 days of testimony and 50 minutes of deliberations.
Jury recommended sentence after deliberations after sentencing phase
Friday the jury of seven men and five women returned to hear more testimony in the sentencing phase of the trial. After the testimony, the jury reportedly deliberated for 35 minutes. After deliberations, they recommended a 12-year sentence for rape and 6 additional years for sexual assault.
The Deputy prosecutor in the case said that the victim and her family were happy with the outcome of the trial, the story in the Sentinel Record stated.
