Lakeside dominates scrimmage with traditional 4A power Nashville

Lakeside coach Jared McBride is going to Wynne, Ar., for the first time.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — It looks like the preseason prognosticators knew what they were doing when picking Hot Springs Lakeside to win 5A South again this fall.

The Rams were impressive in Tuesday night’s scrimmage with traditional 4A powerhouse Nashville. There was no score kept, but Lakeside coach Jared McBride notes his Rams scored five or six touchdowns early against the Scrappers.

Rams’ coach pleased after Nashville test

“There was a lot of good to be proud of, and there remains a lot of work to be done,” McBride said. “We played hard, and knew what to do. I’d say we were pretty sharp. Five different players scored our first five touchdowns. Our quarterback (Jordan Mills) played well, and both of our backs (Chance Cross and Braylen Russell) ran the ball well.”

Nashville did score twice in the second quarter of the scrimmage.

“Our defense played fast and hard,” added McBride. “We had an early interception, and capitalized on it. Our safety Christian Bell and Bailey Degrasse had interceptions.”

McBride indicated he was expecting a great high school football game when his Rams open Aug. 27 at Lake Hamilton.
