
CHARLESTON, Ar. — Senior quarterback Josh Lawson threw 80 and 79-yard touchdown passes Friday as Centerpoint beat previously unbeaten Charleston in the Class 3A playoffs, 28-23.
Charleston scored first, but Lawson teamed up with Dillon Fox for the 80-yard score, and Hayden Rogers’ PAT kick put the Knights on top 7-6.
The host team reclaimed the lead on a 41-yard field goal. Lawson answered with a 79-yard scoring pass to Kaden Owens.
Dillon Fox also had two short touchdown runs. His final score had Centerpoint leading 28-9. Charleston scored twice in the fourth quarter, the final six points coming with 1:42 left in the game.
Lawson completed 8 of 12 passes for 280 yards. Junior Jace Clark rushed for 67 yards on 12 carries. The Knights outgained Charleston 356 to 346.
The Knight play defending 3A champion Harding Academy next Friday.
