Jonesboro man dead after officer involved shooting; State Police investigating

State Police

The Arkansas State Police is investigating an officer involved shooting that left a Jonesboro man dead.

According to state police, on Feb. 9, a Jonesboro Police Department officer had “an exchange of gunfire” with 22-year-old Jayden J. Prunty that left him dead after being transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The officer involved had what the state police calls “a non-life threatening gunshot wound.”

The officer encountered Prunty at around 10:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the Spruce and Warren Streets intersection. State police say that is where the struggle between the officer and Prunty occurred and led to an exchange of gunfire between the officer and Prunty.

The Jonesboro Police Department requested the State Police investigate. The State Police’s criminal investigation division collected evidence at the scene and are continuing the investigation.
