FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas Razorbacks produced a doubleheader sweep of Stony Brook Friday with a 3-1 win and a 4-3 win at Baum-Walker Stadium.
Pitcher Isaiah Campbell got his third start of the season in game on and collected 13 strikeouts, a career-high. He also had seven scoreless innings and allowed four baserunners, three by hits, in his longest outing of 2019.
Redshirt junior Kevin Kopps and junior closer Matt Cronin struck out a combined five batters in the final two innings to help tie the school single-game record for strikeouts in a game, which was 18 against Missouri State in 2009 and 18 again against Grand Canyon in 2017.
In game two, the pitching staff of Cody Scroggins, Kole Ramage and Jacob Kostyshock fanned 11 more batters to tally 29 strikeouts on the day. Scroggins worked 3.1 innings in his second straight start while Ramage got his third win of the season coming out of the bullpen.
Kostyshock earned the save by throwing a nearly perfect eighth and ninth inning. The tying run did go to third, which was his fault, after a throwing error on a comebacker to the pitcher sailed into the stands behind first base. Kostyshock calmed down and struck out the remaining Stony Brook batter for his first save of 2019.
Arkansas and Stony Brook finish up the three-game series Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch from Baum-Walker Stadium. Pregame is at 1:30 p.m. and all the action can be heard on Caddo Country 98.9 FM and 670 AM with Scott Inman and Bubba Carpenter calling the game.
