TEXARKANA, Ark. – Hot Springs football coach Darrell Burnett announced Thursday morning that the Trojans’ 5A South football game with third-ranked Texarkana Arkansas High is canceled. Eighteen Hot Springs players have tested positive for Covid-19.

Texarkana coach Barry Norton said Burnett contacted him Wednesday night. He told Norton three of his players had tested positive for the virus. The game was still on at that point. It was off Thursday morning after 15 more players tested positive.

Friday night’s scheduled game at Razorback Stadium in Texarkana was important to both teams. A Trojan victory would have tied Hot Springs for first place. Texarkana is now the only unbeaten team in 5A South. Its final two games are against Hope and De Queen.

The Trojans’ final two regular season games against Camden Fairview and Lakeside are questionable. Even if Hot Springs has to forfeit its remaining games it will still be eligible for the postseason.
