Centerpoint ends slump with lopsided win over Genoa Central

Centerpoint quarterback Josh Lawson threw four touchdown passes in the first half Friday night at Genoa Central.

 

GENOA, Ar. — A showdown between Centerpoint and Bismarck for the fourth and fifth seeds out of 5-3A is set for next Friday in Amity after the Knights routed Genoa Central, 42-7.

Bismarck did its part Friday night by defeating Fouke, 47-15.

Senior quarterback Josh Lawson threw four touchdown passes in the first half as the Knights built a 35-0 cushion. Senior Dillon Fox took over at quarterback in the second half, throwing a touchdown pass to Nate Rogers.

Genoa defense no match for Lawson

Centerpoint (6-3, 3-3) lit up the scoreboard 95 seconds into the game on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Lawson to senior Kaden Owens. It was the first of three touchdown receptions by Owens.

Lawson and Owens teamed up on a 4-yard pass with 8:54 left in the first quarter, and again in the second quarter from 16 yards. Dillon Fox caught a 41-yard scoring pass from Lawson with 3:43 left in the first quarter to make it 20-0.

Lawson completed 10 of 14 passes for 145 yards in the first half. Owens had four receptions for 53 yards.
