Available ICU beds in Arkansas drop as virus cases rise

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Available intensive care unit beds are continuing to drop in Arkansas. And the state has reported more than 2,800 new coronavirus cases. The Department of Health on Friday said only 37 of its 1,154 ICU beds are available. That’s just 3%. The state’s COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped by 11 to 1,073. The rise in cases came as Senate Democrats called on Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson to take more steps to curb the virus’ spread in the state. Hutchinson rejected the caucus’ recommendations. They included closing bars, more protections for renters and new limits on gatherings.
