WINSLOW, Ark. — The Arkansas State Police and the Fayetteville Police Department took into custody a suicidal man who threatened to jump off an overpass on I-49.
Police say that a man threatened to jump off an overpass near mile-marker 51 on I-49 shortly after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday when officers first encountered him.
Traffic was diverted off the control access highway northbound at Mountainburg and then southbound at West Fork.
Police say that specially trained Arkansas State Police troopers and Fayetteville Police Department negotiators talked to the man and brought his family to the area in hopes of resolving the threat the man made on his life.
Law enforcement officials took the man into custody without incident at approximately 6:15 p.m. The man was transported to a northwest Arkansas medical facility for further examination.
