Arkansas State Police arrest Texas felony suspect on I-30 near Hope after 5-hour armed standoff

The Arkansas State Police says they have taken a felony suspect from Texas into custody following a five-hour armed standoff in Hempstead County near Hope on Interstate 30.

Police say 33-year-old Flores Reynaldo of Progreso, Texas, was arrested after barricading himself inside the sleeper compartment of his tractor-trailer and was armed with two handguns.

According to police, during a routine weight and inspection conducted by Arkansas Highway Patrol at a weigh station on I-30, officer discovered that Reynaldo was wanted on outstanding felony criminal charges in the state of Texas. As officers attempted to take Reynaldo into custody, according to police, he fled to the truck and refused to exit the tractor-trailer, pointing a gun at one of the officers.


State Police was called to the Arkansas Department of Transportation weigh station at around 9:15 a.m. After troopers from Highway Patrol Division, Troop G, and SWAT were able to negotiate with Reynaldo, he surrendered the standoff at around 2:15 p.m., police say.

Reynaldo is charged with aggravated assault and is being held at the Hempstead County Detention Center. No one was injured in the standoff.
