Knights Suffer Another Tough Loss Against Gurdon Go Devils 31-14

The Centerpoint Knights and the Gurdon Go Devils went head to head this past Friday in a game that ended up winning in favor of the Gurdon Go Devils.  After a scoreless 1st quarter, Centerpoint made it to Gurdon’s 19-yard line before starting quarterback, Owen Bright was sacked on a 4th and 9 play to turn it over on downs.

After a field goal by Gurdon’s Jose Chacon to break a scoreless tie late in the second quarter, a fumble by Eric Valdez who was playing quarterback for an injured Owen Bright and appeared to be trying to pass the ball to avoid being sacked was ruled a fumble by officials and was recovered and returned for a touchdown by the Gurdon defense. The two teams were tied at zero for most of first half, and then Gurdon went to halftime with a 10-0 lead.

The Go-Devils took advantage of another miscue by the Knight offense, recovering a fumble and needing only 14 yards to score their first offensive touchdown of the game and would give then a 17-0 lead heading into 4th quarter.

Centerpoint would answer early in fourth quarter on a 1-yard scoring run by Eric Valdez. The touchdown was a first for senior Eric Valdez career and would quickly be answered by Gurdon as KJ Tidwell would score on a run of 6 yards to push the lead back 17 as Gurdon made it 24-7.

A final turnover of the game by the Knights would lead to another touchdown by Gurdon pretty much ending any hopes of a Centerpoint comeback. Valdez would add a late 19-yard scoring run to the Knights tally, bringing final score to 31-14 and an impressive and well-deserved win for a Gurdon team who had lost 3 straight games after a 2-0 start to the season. Gurdon now 1-2 in conference play as are the Knights, who have put themselves back into position to contend for a playoff spot. Knights will try to rebound from the loss next week at home versus Haskell.
